The Story of the Yule log (Bûche de Noël)

In the olden days in France, families traditionally gathered in the spirit of love on Christmas Eve. They sat around the chimney fire fueled by special wooden logs for their warmth before walking to Midnight Mass.
Magical properties were attributed to the burning ashes of the “Yule Logs” or “Bûche de Noël” as they are commonly referred to. Their spell protected newborns from illness and farm animals from fever. The log shape of the cake that we eat nowadays is a revival of this belief.

In France even the traditional bread bakeries make this famous Yule log. Usually it’s made jelly-roll style, with génoise cake rolled around a butter cream and chocolate “bark” on the outside.

Here at the “Croissants de France” we are presenting wonderful varieties of this “Yule Log”
for your own Holiday traditions.

We hope you’ll enjoy and wish you Happy Holidays!
